  1. Interesting pattern, that’s a beautiful butterfly. Very nice shot!

    1. Thank you Meg! I love the yellows.

  2. Good Monday Sylvia :)
It’s seven o’clock in the morning and hopefully this week begins with beautiful butterflies and good shots ;)

    1. Thank you Sid! I’m hoping we get a break from the rains and I get out this week to butterfly. So far, not looking so great. But last night we got to go to the Yi New Year celebrations, and that was very interesting.

      1. Do you mean the Torch Festival in the Yi Region? It should be very interesting and amazing – but not for the butcher sacrifice of animals like sheeps and pigs to celebrate the ruler of heaven against ghosts and demons – and I would like to have the chance to see it :)

        1. Sid, sorry it took me so long to respond. I’ve had a really bad internet week. Fortunately, I had scheduled blog posts ahead, and so that wasn’t interrupted. Yes, it is the Yi Torch Festival, although other minority peoples also celebrate it here in LJ. There is no butchering that we see here in the big town. We’ve seen that type of stuff at other festivals, out in the small countryside villages in the past. But here, it is just kids and torches and fun. They do leap the little kids and babies over the fires, to frighten off bad spirits, which is a bit scary to me. I posted some photos on my other blog, but they aren’t great. It was pouring rain! So hard to hold an umbrella and shoot at the same time.

          1. I saw these photos in your other blog: they are beautiful and amusing :)
About pouring rain: here it rains again, no summer this year, only rain and today 20 C degrees temperature, in practise it is early autumn.

            1. In Lijiang they have a saying: All four seasons wear winter clothes :). I’m adjusting to cold temps in July/Aug. It feels like fall here too. But only during the rainy season. In May, it was really quite warm. Although when it rained then, still wear winter clothes. It’s the altitude for us. I hope you get a bit of summer before summer is over! But not too hot. In the town we lived in Washington, before we moved to China, right now it is 42 C. Too hot!

              1. Good morning Sylvia,
In Lijiang they are very wise! Yes, winter is always round the corner. This morning I must wear some heavy jacket because it’s cold. Hot would be very appreciated this summer. But it will be rainy for italian meteorologists this week and the next too. And here there is a motto: the first rain in august refreshes the wood (i.e. summer is over and snow comes on top of the Alpes). Despite everything we’ll be more motivd than ever to go on :))

  3. Aw, that’s beautiful. I LOVE this little butterfly!!!

    1. It is a real beauty. I just saw that you have your first photos from Spain up! I’m saving it for after class treat before I have to spend 4 hours writing characters this afternoon. It will be my little break treat of NEW butterflies. Thank you!
