I’ll cut to the chase…I’m ending this website. BUT, I’m not ending my butterfly photography. I’ve just migrated everything to my photography website, SylviaColeSheets.com. If you want to just look at butterflies, you can head on over with this direct link to the Lepidoptera Galleries.
For those of you who would like to know more…
It’s a little sad to be abandoning this site. I started it on May 5, 2007. I just wanted a way to keep track of the butterflies I was seeing in my garden. I never would have guessed I would end up photographing over 700 species in 8 countries over a 20+ year span.
Which is part of the problem. It just became hard to keep it all organized well, let alone constantly having to adjust to WordPress changes and understanding changes in SEO, etc. I want to just spend my time on the butterflies and the photos, not having to constantly update the site because of changes beyond my interests. And with over 800 posts and growing, that became impossible on this site.
So I started playing with what I could do with my butterflies on my photography website. And I discovered something really cool…I can map them without doing any work whatsoever. My photo website allows me to display maps, with GPS data from the photo. And that’s what convinced me to just migrate it all there and only maintain the one site going forward.
My Washington Butterflies are already mapped. I’ll be working on the rest over the next few months. So it’s still a work in progress, but that is where I will be from here on out. Things will look different, as it’s all organized in galleries by location. I’m going to be working to then organize the galleries into species, so that you can still see all species from a particular geographic area together. But that will take some time. I’ll get there. Please excuse the mess meanwhile.
I want to say a big thank you to everyone who has followed, commented and encouraged me on this site. It means the world. I really hope some of you will find me on the new site. Especially Sid and Nick. It’s the thought of losing contact with people like you that made me hesitate about this decision. But I’m very excited about this new direction. I think you’ll like it also. If you stop by, drop me a line.
